BACK TO CURRENT MESSAGE
July 6, 2001
From the desk of the MRS RFS President:
Firstly, I would like to thank Christoph Wald (Lahey Clinic; Immediate Past President and former Secretary of the MRS RFS) for a wonderful and very productive year. His talents and energy have honed this section into one of the most progressive resident and fellow sections in the country. To be certain, his primary use of precious "free time" to form this website from which you are reading this message is commendable as it stands as the most up-to-date, useful and progressive of its kind on the web (at least in a few of our humble opinions). In any case, we all know how difficult it is to find time for things other than radiology and we want to thank him sincerely.
Before Christoph, Mark Hansberry (Baystate Medical Center) and Emily Sedgwick (BWH) developed the section. I have learned a lot from that cohort and feel honored to have been and continue to be associated with them. Christoph will stay on as Webmaster. Wayne Monsky (BIDH) will be Vice President / Treasurer and Sharon Kuong (Boston City Hospital) will be Secretary.
Moreover, I would like to thank Peter Gordon, our MRS sponsor, who has given time and energy unselfishly and has been a wonderful mentor. We are very happy that he will be the new MRS President and wish him all the best.
My gratitude goes out to the Section for selecting me President. I have enjoyed serving as your Secretary over the prior year and look forward to the continued challenges that await the section and the attempt to promote your interests.
For those who may be unclear on the role of the section, I will provide a little background. The ACR has state chapters that form the delegates to the national group. In Massachusetts, the state chapter is called the Massachusetts Radiological Society (MRS). A few years ago, our friends mentioned above were part of a movement to form a separate but connected Resident and Fellow Section (RFS). This section was born of the concept that decisions regarding residents and fellows, directly and indirectly, occur frequently within and outside the ACRs venue and that a more formal society might better address the interests of those whose voice may not have been heard (namely, ours).
To that end, we are now able to interact during meetings, policy making and on our own to promote our agendas. Our agendas are not set, however, and are guided by those who interact in the process by coming to meetings, writing e-mails and visiting the website. We have attempted to contact all residents and fellows in the state on numerous occasions and have had a very positive response.
This should only be the beginning, however, and we need your help. I make an impassioned plea to you now to get involved in the section. It doesnt matter how or to what degree. Your time and energy will help benefit you and others in training programs like yours. Remember: "Our agenda is your agenda."
Please check the website early and often. We hope to see you soon!
Best Wishes,
Mark Mullins, M.D., Ph.D
